Heat Pump Rebate
The state of Victoria offers up to $1,000 in hot water rebates for solar and heat pumps through the Solar Homes Program. The heat pump rebate is essentially a partial refund on the purchase of a qualifying energy-saving system, providing a significant reduction in the upfront installation cost.
Am I Eligible?
As a Victorian householder, you could receive a government rebate on hot water if you meet the following criteria:
- You are the owner-occupier of an existing property where the system is to be installed
- The combined household taxable income of all owners is less than $210,000 per year
- The property is valued at under $3 million
- The property address has not previously received a hot water rebate or a solar battery rebate under the Solar Homes Program
- The hot water system to be replaced is at least three years old from the date of purchase
Applying for a Heat Pump Rebate
There are three easy steps to apply for a hot water government rebate.
Get a Quote
Before installing your solar hot water heater or heat pump, it’s recommended to receive a quote from an authorised local provider, like me at Ballarat Hot Water and Plumbing. Obtaining a quote is required to apply for an eligibility number, which your installer will use to confirm that they can proceed with the installation.
Apply for Rebate
Applying for the rebate is easy through the Hot Water Rebate Portal.
In addition to a quote number from an authorised hot water retailer, new applicants will need to provide two forms of ID to finalise their application. These can be a:
- Driver’s licence or a learner permit
- Medicare card
- Australian passport
- Australian birth certificate
- Australian citizenship certificate
- Foreign passport. This should be a foreign passport with a valid Australian Visa.
- Immicard
- Proof of income — if there is more than one owner of the property, we require proof of income for all listed owners. If there is more than one listed owner, you will need to provide proof of income documents for each person from the same financial year.
Existing customers, on the other hand, are only required to present their quote number from an authorised hot water retailer and two forms of ID. They are no longer required to furnish a copy of their proof of income.
Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll automatically receive an email confirming your application. If the Solar Homes Program have all the information they need, your eligibility will be confirmed immediately. If not, you may be required to provide additional information.
Get the System Installed
After receiving approval confirmation from Solar Victoria, you can coordinate the installation of the system through an authorised hot water retailer. It’s important to acknowledge that the program mandates the installation of an approved product. The heat pump rebate will be directly disbursed to your retailer and deducted from your invoice, ensuring you only settle any remaining balance once the system is in place.
Please take note that the government rebate is computed after applying any other discounts, including STC and VEEC. It constitutes a 50% rebate on the system’s purchase price, up to a maximum value of $1000.
Expansion Phase
Finally, allowing the high-pressure gas to expand converts it back into a low-pressure liquid refrigerant. The cycle then repeats, starting from the absorption phase again.
